Sverker Lerheden (1947-2024) was one of Sweden's most prominent business leaders with an impressive career in the construction and real estate industry. Raised in Stockholm, his early years were marked by a closeness to industry, which shaped his drive and vision. Through his leadership, he has left an imprint on both business and social development, including through his involvement in the construction of landmarks such as the Globen in Stockholm.
As CEO of the listed real estate company Tornet for eight years, Lerheden demonstrated strategic acumen and an ability to lead complex projects. After his time at Tornet, he continued to create value by founding the real estate company Masmästaren and the forestry company Slottsvalvet together with colleagues. His career has been characterized by business acumen, courage and a strong sense of responsibility, making him a role model for future generations in Swedish business.
Lerheden's commitment, however, extends far beyond the business world. His deep conviction in the importance of supporting research, education and culture resulted in one of Sweden's largest private donations. At a ceremony at Uppsala Castle in April 2022, he and his wife Birgitta announced a donation of 300 million kronor to three foundations. The funds will strengthen basic research and student support at four institutions: the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University, the Department of Ecology and Genetics at Uppsala University, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm.

For Lerheden, the donations are an expression of his desire to give back to society and create long-term conditions for development. He emphasized that investments in basic research, art and education are crucial for Sweden's future, both from a competitive and cultural perspective. His ambition is that the donations will inspire others in the business community to take similar initiatives and show how success can be used to create social benefit.
Through his leadership, his community involvement and his generosity, Sverker Lerheden is a role model who shows that true success is about combining business achievements with genuine responsibility for future generations.
